MURFREESBORO, Tenn. — Oakland High School, led by Principal John Marshall, has completed a major campus expansion that adds more than 100,000 square feet to the facility. The $61 million project connects the school’s main building and annex, creating a safer, more unified campus for students and staff.
The upgrades include more than 20 new classrooms, a state-of-the-art 740-seat auditorium, and a BioSTEM lab designed to provide students with university-level, hands-on training in biotechnology. In addition, the school’s culinary arts facilities, band hall, and choir spaces were renovated to better serve Oakland’s growing student body and diverse programs.
Oakland High School, located at 2225 Patriot Drive in Murfreesboro, first opened its doors in 1972. More than 50 years later, it continues to serve as a cornerstone of the Rutherford County Schools district, which consistently ranks among the best in Tennessee.
For the 2025–2026 academic year, Rutherford County Schools is serving more than 52,000 students in grades K–12 across 52 campuses, while also earning national recognition for its leadership in academics, planning, and safety measures.
