Murfreesboro, TN - If you’ve driven past the old drugstore at S. Church Street and Warrior Drive lately and thought, “Isn’t that where they’re putting an ER?”—you’re right. But what you may not have known is that the project needed a green light from the state first. That approval just came through.
The Tennessee Health Facilities Commission unanimously approved TriStar StoneCrest Medical Center’s Certificate of Need to build a freestanding emergency room in southern Murfreesboro. The $19 million TriStar Murfreesboro ER will bring 24/7 emergency care to one of the fastest-growing areas in Tennessee.
Earlier this month, Rutherford County Commissioners passed a resolution showing their support for three medical organizations working together to expand access to emergency care for area residents. Part of the planned expansion of patient care that was backed by commissioners, was the TriStar freestanding emergency room that just received the green-light for south Murfreesboro.
With 11 treatment rooms, a trauma bay, full-service lab, advanced imaging, and a three-bay transport base, the new facility is designed to handle serious medical needs quickly and efficiently. “This ER is a critical investment in the health and safety of our community,” said Lou Caputo, TriStar StoneCrest’s CEO.
TriStar has long served Murfreesboro through urgent care and medical offices, but last year alone, over 8,000 residents traveled to Smyrna for ER services. This new location will help ease that burden and reduce wait times across Rutherford County. It’ll accept all insurance providers, including TennCare.
Community support played a huge role in getting the project approved. More than 1,200 letters were submitted in favor, and the Certificate of Need passed with a 7-0 vote. TriStar StoneCrest expressed deep gratitude to everyone who advocated for the ER—from local residents to elected officials.
So the next time you pass that corner, you’ll know that emergency care will soon be even closer to home for those who live in south Rutherford County.
Meanwhile, in north Rutherford County, Ascension Saint Thomas Rutherford is partnering with Murfreesboro Medical Clinic to build a freestanding emergency department in Lascassas, bringing additional care to residents traveling from that direction.
