Murfreesboro, TN - A ruptured gas line has prompted an emergency response in Murfreesboro this afternoon, causing major traffic disruptions near the heart of the city.
The call came in around 4:00 p.m. on Thursday, October 2, and crews from the Murfreesboro Fire Rescue Department quickly arrived on the scene. Atmos Energy technicians are also on-site, working to stop the leak and secure the area.
Police have confirmed that West College Street is now closed between NW Broad Street and Medical Center Boulevard. That's the area behind Jackson Motel and Checkers. Drivers are being asked to avoid the area and find alternate routes, as delays are expected while crews work to contain the situation.
At this time, there are no reports of injuries, but emergency personnel are closely monitoring air quality and safety conditions. The closure is expected to remain in place until the leak is fully controlled.
This is a developing story, and updates will be provided as more information becomes available.
