Murfreesboro, TN - Murfreesboro Municipal Airport is gearing up for its 4th Annual STEAM Fest, and this year it’s bigger than ever. In partnership with the Discovery Center’s Tennessee STEAM Festival, the airport will host two exciting events that blend science, technology, engineering, art, and math into one unforgettable experience.
First up, on Tuesday, October 14, 2025, from 4 to 6 p.m., the terminal lobby transforms into an art gallery showcasing 65 imaginative airline “livery” designs created by fifth graders from Murfreesboro City Schools. These young artists were challenged to reimagine their schools as airlines, complete with custom tail logos and color schemes. The artwork will remain on display through November.
Then, on Saturday, October 18 from 9AM to 1PM, the airport opens its doors for the free STEAM Fest. Visitors can explore aircraft up close, try out flight simulators, and dive into hands-on exhibits. Expect to see everything from a Blackhawk helicopter and military drones to Vanderbilt LifeFlight’s medical evac chopper and MTSU’s aircraft engine lab.
Kids and families can enjoy games, paper airplane stations, and free hot dogs while learning how STEAM powers the world around us. City departments will also be on-site with vehicles and equipment that keep Murfreesboro running smoothly.
With past festivals drawing over 1,500 attendees, this year’s expanded lineup promises even more inspiration. As Airport Director Chad Gehrke puts it, “You never know how this fun experience might spark the next pilot, engineer, or firefighter.”
Again, remember the dates: the Student Art Show opens Tuesday, Oct. 14 from 4:00 – 6:00PM with plenty of hands-on exhibits that afternoon. It remains on display in the Murfreesboro Airport’s lobby through November. The other date is fun-packed STEAM Fest on Saturday, Oct. 18 from 9AM to 1:00PM.
