Murfreesboro, TN -  On Friday, November 7, Murfreesboro’s Lane Agri-Park Auditorium will host a daylong celebration of Tennessee’s most overlooked agricultural powerhouse: forage. The Tennessee Forage & Grassland Council’s 2025 annual meeting promises a blend of science, storytelling, and community connection—all under the leadership of UT-TSU Extension Director Anthony Tuggle, who oversees the Murfreesboro facility and will be welcoming guests to the event.

The theme, “Celebrating Our State’s Best Resource,” highlights the vital role forage plays in livestock systems across Tennessee. Doors open early with setup at 7:30 a.m. and registration at 8, followed by a full schedule of presentations, tours, and discussions. UT-TSU Extension agents—familiar voices to WGNS listeners—will be on site to answer questions and connect with local producers.

Bronc Finch, a soil fertility specialist from the University of Arkansas, will deliver the keynote on how soil health drives forage success. UT’s Katie Mason will explore the economics of hay quality, while David Bilderback and Bruno Pedreira guide attendees through building a practical forage budget. USDA’s Chris Hancock and Cory Hodge will share updates on conservation programs.

Producer Bill Legg will offer a personal look at his grazing journey, followed by a panel discussion moderated by TFGC President Andy Ulmer. The afternoon includes a forage plot tour led by Cannon County’s Jared Franklin and UT professor Renata Oakes, showcasing the latest research in action.

The day wraps up with a celebration of excellence, honoring winners of the Tennessee State Fair hay competition—local producers whose work sets the standard in forage production.

Whether you’re a seasoned farmer, a student, or simply curious about Tennessee agriculture, this event offers a rare chance to learn, connect, and grow. Registration is $50 and includes lunch and annual dues. Online registration is encouraged at , but walk-ins are welcome.
