Murfreesboro, TN - Sheriff Mike Fitzhugh proudly announced the promotion of Corporal Zach Campbell to sergeant within the Special Operations Division of the Rutherford County Sheriff’s Office. Campbell will now take on leadership roles in two critical units: the Strategies and Tactics for Opioid Prevention (STOP) Unit and the Drug and Violence Initiative (DVI) Unit.

“The DVI Unit’s key goal is to interdict drugs and stop violent crimes before it occurs,” Campbell explained, underscoring the proactive mission that defines his new assignment. His promotion reflects years of dedicated service and tactical expertise, especially in areas where swift, strategic intervention can save lives and protect communities.

Campbell began his career at RCSO in 2017 as a detention deputy and quickly rose through the ranks. By 2018, he was serving as a patrol deputy, and later earned the title of corporal on the evening shift. His four years in the STOP Unit gave him firsthand experience in combating the opioid crisis, and his five-year tenure on the RCSO SWAT Team has sharpened his skills in high-risk operations.

Now, as sergeant, Campbell steps into a role that blends leadership, strategy, and community impact. His promotion is not just a personal milestone—it’s a signal of the Sheriff’s Office’s ongoing commitment to tackling drug-related crime and violence head-on. With Campbell at the helm of these specialized units, Rutherford County continues to strengthen its stance against the threats that challenge public safety.
