UPDATE: Suspect Arrested in Deadly Murfreesboro Shooting on North Academy Street

MURFREESBORO, Tenn. (WGNS) — Murfreesboro Police have arrested a suspect in connection with Thursday night’s deadly shooting on North Academy Street. The shooting occurred around 9 p.m. in the 1000 block of N. Academy, where officers found one person suffering from gunshot wounds. The victim was later pronounced deceased.

Police confirmed Friday night that the suspect was taken into custody without incident. Neither the suspect nor the officers were injured during the arrest.

The shooting took place in a newer neighborhood behind Oaklands Mansion, an area known for its green spaces, sidewalks, and family-friendly environment. Residents expressed shock and disbelief, with one Oakland Court resident describing the victim as a respected young man with a steady job and suggesting he may have been misidentified.

Murfreesboro Police say the investigation remains ongoing but believe the shooting was an isolated event. Detectives with the Criminal Investigations Division continue to gather evidence and interview witnesses.
