(MIDDLE TENNESSEE) We now have more details on an accident that occurred on I-840 this past Tuesday evening. The wreck involved a tractor-trailer that was traveling in the eastbound lanes near the Rutherford/Wilson County line at mile marker 69.
A Toyota Sequoia driven by 24-year-old Kevin Jackson was headed toward Lebanon on I-840 when, for unknown reasons, it ran off the roadway and into the center median. Jackson’s SUV then entered the oncoming westbound lanes of I-840, where it impacted the big rig. After colliding with the 18-wheeler, both the SUV and the larger truck, which was hauling a full-size trailer, came to a final rest in the middle of the westbound lanes. According to the Tennessee Highway Patrol (THP), the wreck occurred between the Couchville Pike and Stewarts Ferry Pike interchanges.
In a report released by the THP, Jackson was not wearing a seat belt when the crash unfolded. As a result of injuries sustained in the incident, he was taken to the hospital. The driver of the tractor-trailer, Oxius Lucien of Florida, was not injured in the wreck, and authorities say he was buckled in when the SUV entered his lane of travel.
While the crash happened at around 5:30 p.m., it took hours to clear the debris. Emergency responders were unable to fully reopen the two lanes of I-840 that take commuters from Wilson County into Rutherford County. Reports indicate traffic was not back to normal until about 11 o’clock Tuesday night of last week.
Details in the preliminary THP report released to WGNS News show that there are no charges pending in the case, and no one was charged with any wrongdoing at the scene of the crash.
Just two days later, a multi-vehicle accident on a different stretch of I-840, west of Murfreesboro, claimed the life of a 22-year-old motorcyclist. The Thursday night (Oct. 9, 2025) wreck happened in Williamson County near mile marker 42.
In that Thursday incident, the motorcycle was unable to slow down enough to stop when traffic ahead had slowed or come to a standstill. The motorcyclist slammed into the back of a Ford Transit van. A Ford Explorer traveling in the same eastbound lane heading toward Murfreesboro then ran over the motorcycle, dragging the bike a short distance. The man on the motorcycle was the only fatality reported in the wreck, and no other injuries were reported. No charges are being filed at this time.
