Tennessee native Carol B. Ghattas has released a new Advent devotional designed for individuals who find the holiday season difficult. Her book, When You Don’t Feel Like Celebrating: A 31-Day Advent Devotional, offers words of encouragement and hope to those experiencing grief, loss, or emotional hardship during Christmas.

Ghattas, who is a retired librarian who served as the Branch Manager of the Linebaugh Public Library, in Murfreesboro, TN, is not only an author, but also a speaker, and a blogger. She wrote the devotional to reach readers who may not feel like joining in the joy of the season. The book acknowledges the pain of losing loved ones, facing job loss, or being separated from family and home, while guiding readers through the prophecies of Isaiah to discover comfort and renewal through faith.

“The prophecies recorded in Isaiah were not solely intended for the people of Israel,” Ghattas explains in her book. “There is a thread of hope that runs through Isaiah’s pages — a reminder that the God of promise provides encouragement even in our darkest days.”

The devotional encourages readers to seek strength and peace in God’s Word, even when joy feels out of reach. Each day’s reading connects the struggles of life with biblical truths, helping readers restore hope and rediscover reasons to celebrate.

Dr. Keith Myatt, Teaching Pastor at Third Baptist Church in Murfreesboro, Tennessee, praised the devotional’s impact.

“Carol Ghattas has provided the body of Christ with a dual blessing for the Christmas season,” Myatt said. “She highlights God’s covenantal plans through Isaiah in a concise and readable way, encouraging those who ‘don’t feel like celebrating.’ Her work brings comfort and joy to the Christmas season. Read and be blessed.”

Nancy York, also of Murfreesboro, shared her personal connection to the book.

“After losing my son two years ago, I know how real grief is,” York said. “Carol’s devotional reminded me that God’s Word provides peace for grieving hearts. I was especially moved by the message from Isaiah 43:18–19 — a beautiful reminder that God is love and His grace is sufficient.”

Ghattas, who has published more than ten books on various topics, continues to inspire readers through her website, lifeinexile.net. When You Don’t Feel Like Celebrating is available now through Ambassador International and other book distributors.
