Two dogs that live with a homeowner on North Maple Street will be detained by the local animal shelter for a period of ten days after they both bit a mother and her son. The incident occurred on June 8th when a woman and her son were walking down Maple Street. One of the unleashed animals bit the little boy and as the mother attempted to get the dog away from her child a second dog ran up and bit her on the calf. The incident occurred on a city sidewalk and the officer who wrote the report noted that he witnessed the dogs chase after at least three other people as he was checking on the welfare of the victims.
The mother and her son were transported to the local hospital to be treated for minor injuries while officers tracked down the owner of the animals. Authorities found the house where the dogs live and discovered a third dog on a chain in the front yard of the home in question, but the owner was nowhere to be found. The officer who filed the report later met with the owner of the animals at the police station. The Pet Adoption and Welfare Services office has opened an investigation into the incident. At this point, no charges have been filed.
