Fuel Relief: Tennessee Drivers See Continued Price Drop

Oct 20, 2025 at 10:58 am by WGNS News

Murfreesboro, TN - Tennessee drivers are enjoying another week of falling gas prices, with the state average dipping three cents to $2.68 per gallon. That’s 10 cents cheaper than a month ago and 11 cents less than this time last year, continuing a welcome trend for motorists across the Volunteer State.

While Tennessee’s average remains well below the national figure, the U.S. average for regular gasoline also saw a five-cent drop, landing at $3.03. If the trend continues, the national average could soon fall below the $3 mark for the first time in four years.

Experts point to several factors behind the decline: a drop in crude oil prices, reduced gasoline demand, and the seasonal switch to less expensive winter-blend fuel. Additionally, a quiet hurricane season has spared Gulf Coast refineries from disruptions, helping to stabilize supply.

The Energy Information Administration (EIA) reports that gasoline demand fell from 8.91 million barrels per day to 8.45 million, while production also dipped slightly to 9.4 million barrels per day. Meanwhile, U.S. crude oil inventories rose by 3.5 million barrels, though they remain about 4% below the five-year seasonal average. West Texas Intermediate (WTI) crude closed Wednesday at $58.27 per barrel, down 43 cents from the previous session.

Closer to home, Tennessee’s most expensive metro areas for gas include Nashville at $2.73, Cleveland at $2.72, and Jackson at $2.71. On the flip side, Clarksville drivers are seeing the lowest prices at $2.56, followed by Chattanooga at $2.62 and Morristown at $2.63.

With prices trending downward and no major storms on the horizon, Tennessee drivers may continue to see modest savings at the pump as fall progresses.
