Beyond County Lines: RCLS Opens Doors to All Readers

Oct 20, 2025 at 04:39 pm by WGNS News

Murfreesboro, TN - Starting Monday, November 3, 2025 the Rutherford County Library System is turning a new page in regional access. The local library is launching an Out-of-County Library Card.  Anyone living outside Rutherford County can now tap into the system’s rich resources—for just $25 a year.

It’s a move that speaks volumes about the library’s mission to promote literacy and community engagement beyond geographic boundaries.

“We’re excited to welcome new faces into our spaces,” said a library spokesperson. “This card is more than access—it’s an invitation to explore, imagine, and engage.”

The process is simple: bring proper ID, pay the annual fee, and enjoy nearly all the same services as local cardholders. Meanwhile, Rutherford County residents will see no changes to their free access. The new program is designed to complement—not compete with—the existing system, ensuring that everyone who values learning has a place at the table.

From Murfreesboro to Smyrna, Eagleville to the Technology Engagement Center, each branch offers something unique. Whether you’re diving into historical archives at the HRC on Rice Street or attending a tech workshop on Minerva Drive, the doors are open wider than ever.

And for those who’ve long admired the county’s library offerings from just across the border, this new card is a welcome bridge. In fact, it could spark a love of reading, research, and community connection in someone who’s never stepped inside a library before.
