This Monday night’s meeting features a timely presentation from representatives of Waste Management, the company now operating Rutherford County’s new transfer station. The topic? “What happens after the curb?” It’s a chance to learn how our trash and recyclables are handled — not just today, but in the years ahead.
Speakers include Molly Morrissey, Waste Management’s community relations manager, Paul Farley, recycling operations manager, and Tom Brandon, public sector representative. Together, they’ll walk attendees through the journey from pickup to processing, and share insights into how the county is preparing for the future.
The new transfer station, located at 6000 Landfill Road, officially opened this spring. It’s a key part of Rutherford County’s strategy as the Middle Point Landfill nears capacity. The facility is designed to be financially self-supporting, with no property tax dollars involved, and is owned and overseen by the county.
Mayor Joe Carr called the Waste Management contract “a landmark” when it was signed in August 2024, noting its role in maintaining essential services in a cost-effective way.
Parking is available in front of the Heritage Center, with overflow across the street in the bank's lot.
Everyone is welcome — whether you’re a longtime recycler or just curious about where your garbage goes. So mark your calendar, bring your questions, and join neighbors for an evening that promises to be both informative and eye-opening. That's this coming Monday night at 7:00 o'clock in the Heritage Center. Oh, bring your friends!
