Murfreesboro, TN - Here’s an update on the fiery two-car crash that occurred around 6:30 Monday evening, October 20, 2025. The eastbound lane of I-840, heading toward Lebanon, was temporarily closed while the Tennessee Highway Patrol conducted its investigation and completed preliminary reports.
According to THP’s early findings, a 2006 Honda Civic was traveling westbound when it allegedly lost control near the 55-mile marker at the US 41-70 interchange. The vehicle crossed the median and entered the eastbound lane, where it collided head-on with a 2025 Mercedes E-45.
Three people were injured in the crash. The Honda Civic was driven by Carlos Romero Guarenas, with Brian Agular Roberto as his passenger. Both young men are 18 years old. The Mercedes was driven by 61-year-old Douglas Thompson. Thankfully, all three individuals were wearing seatbelts at the time of the collision, and no charges have been filed at this stage.
The crash scene was intense, with flames visible from the roadway. Responders from multiple agencies — including the Rutherford County Sheriff’s Office, Rutherford County EMS, and Murfreesboro Fire-Rescue — worked swiftly and collaboratively to secure the area and assist the injured.
As of now, the investigation remains ongoing, and traffic has resumed normal flow on I-840. WGNS will continue to follow this story and provide updates as more details become available.
