Murfreesboro, Tenn. (WGNS) — The Rutherford County Board of Education has officially approved the academic calendar for the 2026–2027 school year, setting the first full day of classes for students on Monday, August 10, 2026, and the final day on Friday, May 28, 2027.
The calendar, approved during the board’s October 16 meeting, outlines important dates for parents, students, and staff, including breaks, holidays, and teacher workdays.
Key Dates and Breaks
Teachers will return the week before students, beginning with an Administrative and Safety Day on August 3, followed by in-service and workdays through August 6. Students will have a two-hour orientation on Friday, August 7, before starting full days on Monday, August 10.
The Fall Break is scheduled for October 5–9, following the end of the first nine weeks on October 2. Students and staff will be off for Thanksgiving Break from November 23–27, and the Winter Break will run from December 21 through January 4, with classes resuming Tuesday, January 5.
The Spring Break will take place from March 29 through April 2, and students will conclude the year with a two-hour day on May 28, when report cards will be issued.
Holidays and School Closures
The district will observe all major holidays, including Labor Day (September 7), Martin Luther King Jr. Day (January 18), Presidents’ Day (February 15), and Good Friday (April 3).
Community Impact
The approved calendar provides a traditional school schedule similar to recent years, allowing families and staff to plan ahead for travel, athletics, and academic programs.
Rutherford County Schools continue to align their calendar with regional districts to minimize scheduling conflicts for families with students in multiple systems.
