Historic Haunts and Halloween Treats Await on the Square: Friday 3-5PM

Murfreesboro, TN - The clock is ticking, and it's almost time for a candle filled afternoon of chocolate and spooking on the historic Murfreesboro square. From 3:00 to 5:00 o'clock Halloween, sidewalks of history will transform into a candy-coated corridor of costumed chaos. “Trick or Treat on the Square” returns with all the charm, sugar, and sidewalk spirit you’d expect from a town that knows how to mix history with Halloween.

Kids in costume—whether they’re tiny pumpkins or pint-sized pirates—are invited to haunt the historic downtown square, collecting goodies from local businesses, city offices, and even the legendary 1859 Courthouse. Yes, the same courthouse that’s seen Civil War skirmishes, political duels, and (allegedly) mobster meetings will now host mini monsters in search of chocolate.

While the little ones fill their treat bags, grown-ups can sneak off for some retail therapy. Downtown shops will be offering Halloween specials, so you might just score a deal while your kid scores a Snickers. It’s a win-win—unless you’re dressed as a ghost and float past the bargains.

Main Street Murfreesboro, the nonprofit behind the event, promises a family-friendly afternoon that’s as much about community spirit as it is about candy. Newcomers to the “Heart of Tennessee” will find it’s the perfect way to meet neighbors, explore the square, and maybe even learn a spooky fact or two about local lore.

The sidewalks are brick, the buildings are historic, and the atmosphere? Delightfully eerie. Whether you’re a longtime resident or fresh to town, this is one Halloween tradition that’s more treat than trick.

So grab your cape, your candy bucket, and your curiosity. The square is calling—and it’s got Reese’s.
