LASCASSAS, Tenn. (WGNS) — Rutherford County Mayor Joe Carr is recovering at Vanderbilt University Medical Center in Nashville after being injured while training horses with his son at their Lascassas farm on Tuesday afternoon.
According to officials, Rutherford County Emergency Medical Services (RCEMS) responded to the scene and initially transported Carr to a Murfreesboro hospital before he was transferred to Vanderbilt for specialized treatment.
Mayor Carr is being treated for nine broken ribs, a lacerated liver, and a partially collapsed lung. Despite the extent of his injuries, he remains in good spirits.
“This is the first time I’ve spent the night in a hospital in 65 years,” Carr said. “I’m glad it was from doing something I love. RCEMS and the medical teams have been awesome.”
No additional updates on his condition have been released, but officials confirmed that both horses were unharmed in the incident.
