Murfreesboro, TN - Middle Tennessee State University’s Center for Energy and Sustainability is joining forces with the nonprofit Green Interchange to encourage Tennesseans to plant for a cleaner, healthier future. Their collaborative event, “Plant a Bigger Tree for Tennessee,” features an online tree sale running now through Monday, Nov. 17. Community members can pick up their purchased trees from 4 to 7 p.m. on Tuesday, Nov. 18, at the Tennessee Livestock Center, Barn B, 1720 Greenland Drive in Murfreesboro.

Kristin England, sustainability manager for the Center, expressed enthusiasm for the new partnership. “Their mission aligns with MTSU’s stewardship to foster a greener campus,” England said.

The event is open to everyone, making it easy for locals to access native trees. Trees can be ordered online for $35 to $45 and picked up at the event. To order, visit bit.ly/3JzpYKN.

John McFadden, CEO of Green Interchange, highlighted the impact of planting larger, established trees. “These bigger, established trees grow faster and give back to our communities through shade, beauty, and cleaner air,” McFadden said.

Available varieties include river birch, flowering dogwood, Eastern redbud, and red maple—each chosen for their suitability to Tennessee’s landscape and climate. “Flowering trees like dogwoods and redbuds don’t just brighten your yard—they help restore Tennessee’s natural beauty,” said Callahan Marsh, marketing and development manager for Green Interchange.

In addition to the potted trees, free bare-root saplings will be offered at the event, with no preorder required. Marsh emphasized, “Regardless of the size, every tree planted through this program brings us closer to a healthier, more vibrant Tennessee.”

Green Interchange, based in Tennessee, aims to restore the state’s natural beauty and improve air and water quality. MTSU’s tree sale supports this mission, encouraging residents to order online and select Murfreesboro for pickup. Note: Trees must be picked up during the Nov. 18 event; shipping is not available.
