MURFREESBORO, Tenn. — A unique musical experience is coming to Murfreesboro this Sunday, November 30, offering community members the chance to step out of the audience and directly into the performance. George Frideric Handel’s iconic holiday masterpiece, Messiah, will be presented as an interactive event... Angela Tipps, master instructor in the MTSU School of Music, said that attendees are invited to sing the beloved Christmas portion and the triumphant “Hallelujah” chorus.

The idea to have the audience sing a portion of the piece was born one year after MTSU School of Music professor Raphael Bundage put away his baton following approximately 40 years of service, leading to Tipps being tapped to lead... Out of respect for Bundage, she said...

On Sunday, the event that’s co-sponsored by the Middle Tennessee Choral Society and the MTSU School of Music begins at 3 p.m. in Hinton Hall - inside the Wright Music Building on the MTSU campus.

First performed 284 years ago, Handel’s Messiah remains one of the most celebrated works of the holiday season. For this special event, participants are encouraged to bring their own musical score or borrow one on-site. Whether you’re a seasoned vocalist, a choir member, or simply a music lover who enjoys singing, all are welcome to join in and help fill Hinton Hall with this timeless Christmas classic.
