La VERGNE, TN - Neighbors on Morningside Drive watched with concern Saturday afternoon (11/29/2025) as La Vergne Fire-Rescue crews rushed to the scene of a structure fire. The call came in around 4:25 p.m., reporting flames inside the walk-in garage basement of a one-story home at 265 Morningside Drive. Within minutes, firefighters arrived to find heavy smoke and fire contained to the basement area.

Thankfully, the resident inside was able to get out safely, and all occupants were accounted for. Crews worked quickly to keep the fire from spreading beyond its point of origin, but despite their efforts, the home sustained significant damage—estimated at roughly $100,000. Battalion Chief Patrick Hood, who commanded the response, confirmed that the fire was brought under control within about 30 minutes.

By 6:35 p.m., crews had fully cleared the scene. While no injuries were reported, the family did suffer the heartbreaking loss of a pet. The Red Cross has stepped in to provide assistance to the displaced resident, offering shelter and support as the investigation into the fire’s cause continues.

For a time, nearby roads including Martinsdale Drive and Hollandale Road were shut down to allow emergency crews to work safely. Police and fire units coordinated traffic control while firefighters battled the blaze. Those roads have since reopened, restoring access to the neighborhood.

The incident serves as a reminder of how quickly fire can devastate a home, even when contained to a single area. Neighbors expressed relief that no lives were lost and gratitude for the swift response of La Vergne Fire Rescue. The department’s ability to control the fire in under half an hour prevented further damage to surrounding properties.

As the investigation moves forward, officials will be working to determine what sparked the blaze. For now, the community is rallying around the displaced resident, offering support in the wake of a difficult loss.
