MURFREESBORO, TN - The joy of the holiday season is alive and well at the new Winter-Spring Rutherford County Farmers Market, where December Fridays are brimming with festive activities for all ages. The market is open Friday mornings 8:00 a.m. until noon at the Lane Agri-Park, 315 John R. Rice Blvd., in Murfreesboro.
Market Manager Hannah Bleam says, "The goal is simple: make shopping for local goods feel like a holiday celebration. Families are invited to enjoy free, family-friendly events each week during market hours, adding a cheerful twist to the season."
The fun begins this coming Friday, December 5, with a 10:00 a.m. showing of A Charlie Brown Christmas. On December 12, children and adults alike can get creative with Rice Krispy ornament decorating, also starting at 10:00 a.m. Then, on December 19, the market will be buzzing all morning with cookie decorating—available with the purchase of a cookie—and a special meet-and-greet with Santa Claus. Bleam says these activities are designed to bring the community together, offering a chance to celebrate the season while supporting local vendors.
This holiday programming highlights the market’s role as more than just a place to shop. It’s a gathering spot where neighbors can share traditions, laughter, and holiday spirit. With decorations, music, and the chance to meet Santa, the market is creating memories alongside its usual offerings of fresh produce, baked goods, and handmade crafts.
This is the first year of the Winter-Spring Rutherford County Farmers Market, held every Friday morning from 8:00 a.m. until noon at Murfreesboro’s Lane Agri-Park, 315 John R. Rice Boulevard. The market is open every Friday in December except December 26, the day after Christmas, and continues through April until the full Tuesday-Friday season begins in May.
Bleam noted that response to the new market has been strong, with local farmers using greenhouses to bring in fresh vegetables even during the colder months. Shoppers can also find local cheese, meats, honey, baked goods, soaps, and more. Indoors at Lane Agri-Park, the market stays warm and comfortable, with garage-style doors closed and heat keeping the space cozy for browsing. And yes, there are plenty of locally made or grown gifts perfect for the season.
“Bring your neighbors, families, and friends,” Bleam said. “There’s something special and local waiting this Friday morning, plus fun attractions and activities for all ages.”
