Memorial Blvd. Whataburger to Close December 15 Amid Mid-State Reductions

MURFREESBORO, Tenn. (WGNS) - Whataburger has announced that its Murfreesboro location on Memorial Boulevard will close on December 15th, part of a broader decision affecting four Middle Tennessee restaurants less than four years after the company returned to the region. The Memorial Boulevard store is one of three Whataburger locations operating in Murfreesboro, alongside restaurants on Old Fort Parkway and Medical Center Parkway. Rutherford County is also served by a Smyrna location. At this point, the three other locations will remain open.

The company said it regularly evaluates its stores in order to strengthen overall performance and invest where it believes growth opportunities are greatest. As a result of its latest review, Whataburger decided to close four underperforming sites, including the Memorial Boulevard restaurant in Murfreesboro, a location in Mt. Juliet and two Clarksville stores.

Even with these closures, Whataburger maintains that it is not retreating from Middle Tennessee. Instead, the company plans to continue its expansion in the Nashville area. Whataburger first returned to the region in early 2022, marking its first presence in Middle Tennessee since the 1970s.
