BELL BUCKLE, Tenn. — Two Murfreesboro Police Department (MPD) traffic officers received top honors at the Tennessee Highway Safety Office’s (THSO) Middle Tennessee Holiday Network Meeting on Dec. 10, held in Bell Buckle. Officer Eric Renfroe was named Region 3 Officer of the Year for his proactive work with the MPD Traffic Unit. Renfroe serves as the lead investigator for the Fatal Accident Crash Team (FACT) and is recognized as a dedicated member who routinely assists fellow officers with complex cases.

Renfroe also received recognition for his persistence in a traffic complaint involving a BMW driver accused of reckless driving during the morning rush hour. After monitoring the location for nearly a month, Renfroe personally witnessed the dangerous behavior, spoke with the driver about the risks posed to the public, and issued a citation.

Officer Leandrea Scott-Harris received the Seat Belt Enforcement Award for her efforts to cite drivers not wearing seat belts and to educate motorists about the dangers of not being properly restrained. Scott-Harris recently transferred from the MPD Traffic Unit to the School Safety Division, where she now serves as a school resource officer.

Several other officers, deputies, and state troopers from the Middle Tennessee Region — which encompasses 22 counties — were also recognized during the awards ceremony, which was hosted at the Tennessee Fire Training Service and Codes Enforcement Academy in the Deason community.

The THSO awards program recognizes impactful, life-saving efforts by law enforcement agencies across the region aimed at improving roadway safety and reducing serious injury and fatal crashes.
