RUTHERFORD COUNTY, TN - Rutherford County Commissioner Carl Boyd has announced his re-election campaign for County Commissioner, District 12. Boyd will run again in the May 5, 2026 Republican primary. District 12 includes the eastern portion of Smyrna and part of La Vergne. “I am running for county commissioner again because I believe we have to keep our property taxes as low as possible so our residents can afford to live here,” Boyd said. “We have to continue searching for innovative ways to control costs and growth to maintain our quality of life,” Boyd said.
“I’m a conservative Republican,” Boyd said. As a county commissioner, Boyd has supported numerous efforts to keep the community safe, including increasing pay for the county’s first responders. He has also supported important school projects such as the Smyrna High School and La Vergne High School additions, as well as numerous other capital improvements to reduce the number of portable classrooms.
Boyd currently serves on the County Commission’s Public Works & Planning Committee, Health & Education Committee, and Purchasing Committee.
Boyd has lived in Rutherford County for over fifty years. He is married to his wife, Karen, and they have three children. Boyd is a graduate of Smyrna High School and attended Middle Tennessee State University. He is a retired business manager from UPS, where he worked for 37 years.
