RUTHERFORD COUNTY, Tenn. — A pedestrian was killed Wednesday night following a multi-vehicle crash on Interstate 840 in Rutherford County, according to the Tennessee Highway Patrol.
The fatal incident was reported shortly after 7 p.m. in the westbound lanes of I-840 between the Sulphur Springs Road exit and the Highway 41/Northwest Broad Street interchange, near mile marker 56.
THP officials said 63-year-old Denise J. Bradley was positively identified as the pedestrian who was struck and killed at the scene. An investigation remains ongoing, and charges are pending against one of the drivers involved.
Preliminary reports indicate a 2019 Honda Pilot was traveling westbound toward Murfreesboro when it struck a 2006 Toyota Corolla that was partially blocking the roadway. Authorities said the Toyota had been involved in an earlier collision with another vehicle and was stopped in the travel lane.
As the Honda Pilot approached the crash scene, the driver allegedly struck Bradley, who was standing outside the damaged vehicles. After the impact, the Honda continued into the median, where it came to a stop.
No other injuries were reported. However, the crashes and resulting fatality required the closure of Interstate 840 for several hours while investigators processed the scene and crews worked to clear the roadway.
The Tennessee Department of Transportation closed the interstate until around midnight Wednesday, extending into early Thursday morning.
Additional details are expected to be released as the investigation continues.
