RUTHERFORD COUNTY, Tenn. (WGNS) - Conservative Republican Phil Wilson has announced his reelection campaign for Rutherford County Commissioner District 10, which encompasses the western areas of Smyrna and La Vergne. He will run again in the Republican primary election on May 5, 2026.
Since taking office, Wilson has displayed a passion for public service and a strong desire to make a positive impact in the community. “During the next term, my priorities include managing growth responsibly, supporting our first responders and public safety personnel, and continuing support for education,” Wilson said.
As a lifelong conservative Republican, Wilson has advocated to keep government spending and property taxes as low as possible. “Affordability is a major issue affecting many people in our community, and county government must be efficient and as lean as possible to keep more money in people’s pockets,” said Wilson.
As Vice-Chairman of the Health and Education Committee, Wilson has played a pivotal role in shepherding the school system’s building-plan priorities. This includes expansions at four Rutherford County high schools, including Smyrna High School and La Vergne High School, the completion of a new elementary school, and the current construction of a new middle school set to open in 2026. Wilson exclaimed: “I am very supportive of our outstanding school system in Rutherford County. We will soon look at constructing a high school in the north end of the county where property on Lee Road in Smyrna was recently purchased by the county to relieve overcrowding in District 10.”
Wilson is also a member of the Steering, Legislative and Governmental Committee and previously served on the Property Management Committee. He attended Middle Tennessee State University and has been a resident of Rutherford County for over thirty years. He and his wife of 27 years, Natalie, a recent graduate of Leadership Rutherford, are active together with the Rutherford County Chamber of Commerce, Rotary Club of Smyrna, and attend Hope Fellowship Church in Smyrna.
