MURFREESBORO, TN - Murfreesboro Fire‑Rescue crews were called out Saturday (12/13/2025) evening to the Krystal restaurant on South Church Street after reports of smoke coming from the building. Battalion Chief 1 was the first to arrive and confirmed moderate smoke drifting from the hood system vent and inside the restaurant.

Firefighters entered the kitchen and discovered the source—a fryer fire that had ignited beneath the hood system. Thanks to their quick action, the flames were extinguished almost immediately. Crews then ventilated the building to clear lingering smoke. Officials confirmed there was no structural damage, and no injuries were reported.

The response was significant, with Ladder 1, Ladder 2, Ladder 6, Engine 3, Engine 9, Engine 10, Rescue 1, Rescue 4, Safety 1, Safety 2, and both Battalion Chiefs on scene. Their coordinated effort ensured the fire was contained before it could spread beyond the kitchen.

For restaurant staff and customers, the incident was a reminder of how quickly a routine evening can turn into an emergency—and how vital it is to have trained crews ready to respond. Murfreesboro Fire‑Rescue emphasized that their team is prepared for all hazards, whether it’s a kitchen blaze, a storm drain rescue, or a larger community emergency.

The Krystal on South Church Street reopened after ventilation was complete, with no lasting damage to the building. Thanks to the swift response, what could have been a devastating fire ended as a minor incident, underscoring the importance of vigilance and readiness in protecting both property and lives.
