RUTHERFORD COUNTY, Tenn. (Rutherford Weather) - The Storm Prediction Center has reintroduced a Marginal Risk (Level 1 of 5) for portions of Middle Tennessee, including Rutherford County, for later today and this evening.
While the overall threat for severe weather remains low, the updated outlook reflects growing confidence in very strong winds aloft moving into the region. When this type of wind energy combines with a passing cold front, it can occasionally allow a few storms to strengthen, even if conditions are not favorable for widespread severe weather.
The primary limiting factor at this time is instability, often referred to as storm fuel. Current data suggests there will not be enough instability to support widespread severe storms, which should keep impacts isolated and limited in nature.
That said, a few storms could briefly become strong, producing gusty winds, particularly during the late afternoon and evening hours. Residents are encouraged to remain weather-aware and secure any loose outdoor items as a precaution.
Rutherford Weather will continue to monitor radar trends and atmospheric conditions throughout the day. Updates will be shared if the threat level changes or if storms show signs of intensifying. A radar timeline showing what conditions could look like into the late evening is included in the accompanying video.
