Warm Biscuits, Warm Smiles: Rutherford County Mayor Carr Talks With Employees

MURFREESBORO, TN  - Rutherford County employees started their Friday with warm biscuits, hot coffee, and plenty of Christmas cheer at the annual Coffee and Biscuit with the Mayor gathering. The early‑morning tradition brought together staff from departments across the county for a few minutes of fellowship before the workday began.

Mayor Joe Carr made his way through the lobby, greeting employees, posing for photos, and sharing holiday well‑wishes. Many teams took the opportunity to snap their annual Christmas‑tree pictures in the decorated lobby.

“The County is blessed to have such devoted professionals in all of the departments,” Carr said. “It’s a time where we take a few minutes to catch up and share holiday greetings before starting our daily service to the community.”

Several County Commissioners joined the celebration, chatting with employees over coffee and enjoying the relaxed, festive atmosphere.

Rutherford County Government offices will be closed December 24–26 in observance of Christmas, giving employees time to celebrate with family and friends. Carr expressed special appreciation for emergency personnel and departments that will continue operating through the holiday. Solid Waste and PAWS will share adjusted schedules on their Facebook pages.

The holiday spirit continues next week with a community favorite: Judge McFarlin’s Community Service Band will perform the Mayor’s and Trustee’s Christmas Concert on Monday, December 22, with shows at 11:00 a.m. at the Historic Courthouse and 9:30 a.m. at the Judicial Center.

Beyond seasonal celebrations, the county continues to emphasize a strong, employee‑centered benefits program. Staff have access to multiple medical, dental, and vision plans; pre‑tax premium deductions; wellness incentives; and dedicated benefits specialists available by phone, email, or appointment. New hires receive clear guidance during their 30‑day enrollment window, and beginning in 2026, employer‑paid life insurance increases to $50,000.

Rutherford County Schools employees also benefit from robust state‑supported plans, including medical, behavioral health, and retirement options.

From biscuits to benefits, Rutherford County leaders say the goal is the same: supporting the people who serve the community every day.
