A Community Tradition Keeps Growing at MMC on Garrison Drive

MURFREESBORO, TN - A Murfreesboro tradition is lacing up for another year. The 15th Annual Special Kids Race has officially been announced for Saturday, March 14, 2026, starting once again at Murfreesboro Medical Clinic & SurgiCenter, 1272 Garrison Drive. Runners and walkers can choose from a 15K, 10K, 5K, or the always‑popular 1‑mile Family Fun Run.

The race has long been a major fundraiser for Special Kids Therapy & Nursing Center, and its impact is well documented. Back in the 6th annual race, more than 3,000 participants helped raise $215,000—a milestone year in which sponsors covered all expenses so that every registration dollar went directly to serving children with special needs. That spirit of generosity has continued, and the race remains one of Special Kids’ most important annual lifelines.

Special Kids provides compassionate, Christ‑centered pediatric therapy and skilled nursing care for children with special healthcare needs in Murfreesboro, helping them grow, heal, and reach their full potential.  The organization supports families regardless of diagnosis, ability, or financial situation, offering therapies, day nursing, and a welcoming place where children and parents find hope and practical help.

MMC plays a central role in that story. As the founding sponsor, the clinic has supported the race since its very first year, and its financial backing continues to ensure that Special Kids receives the full benefit of race proceeds. MMC President and CEO Joey Peay, a familiar voice on WGNS Radio, reminds listeners, "The clinic believes deeply in having a local connection and helping people.”

Peay encourages residents to take part, calling the race one of MMC’s signature ways of giving back.

Runners also rave about the course itself. Beginning at MMC, the route winds through a scenic, flat stretch that highlights the Stones River National Battlefield and Gateway Island. The flat terrain makes it ideal for personal records, first‑time runners, and anyone who simply wants an enjoyable, picturesque morning outdoors.

Whether it’s competitive athletes tackling the 15K or families strolling the 1‑mile loop with strollers and little ones, the Special Kids Race continues to be a celebration of generosity, health, and community spirit. And once again, Murfreesboro is ready to run for a cause that touches countless local families.
