NASHVILLE, Tenn. — Visitors to downtown Nashville are being urged to stay alert after investigators linked a series of cellphone thefts to thousands of dollars in fraudulent transactions.

Metro Nashville Police Department Fraud and Pawn Unit detectives are working to identify a man suspected in at least three separate cellphone thefts involving people visiting the downtown area. According to police, the stolen phones were later used to access victims’ Apple Pay accounts, resulting in thousands of dollars being wired out of their bank accounts. Investigators also say the suspects were able to access and use the victims’ credit cards.

Police say the cases follow a similar pattern and believe the suspect is actively targeting tourists and visitors in crowded areas of Music City. Detectives warn that once a phone is stolen, thieves can quickly gain access to financial apps and stored payment information, causing significant financial losses in a short period of time.

The Metro Nashville Police Department is reminding both residents and visitors to secure their cellphones at all times and remain aware of their surroundings, especially in busy entertainment districts. Anyone who recognizes the suspect from released photos is asked to contact Crime Stoppers at 615-742-7463. Tips can be submitted anonymously, and callers may be eligible for a cash reward.
