Rutherford County: $2.32 per gal for Reg. Unleaded

RUTHERFORD COUNTY, TN - Drivers looking for a reason to smile at the pump this Monday, December 29, 2025 may want to look west— or simply stay right here at home in Rutherford County. The cheapest gas in America right now is being sold in Oklahoma, where prices dipped as low as $2.23 per gallon for regular unleaded. Iowa follows closely behind at $2.34 per gallon. However, gas prices are almost as low in the Murfreesboro / Smyrna and La Vergne, TN areas.

Tennessee lands at number eight nationwide, with the statewide average for 87-octane gas sitting at $2.45 per gallon as of Monday morning. Not bad for the Volunteer State—and even better news for drivers in Rutherford County. Rutherford County is currently one of only 19 counties statewide where fuel prices are marked down to $2.37 or less, and one of just eight counties across Tennessee averaging $2.32 per gallon or lower. As of 6:30 a.m. Monday (12/29/25), regular unleaded across the Murfreesboro, Smyrna, and La Vergne area is averaging $2.32 per gallon, a price that feels almost nostalgic.

Head just south of the ’Boro into Bedford County and prices tick up slightly—by exactly two cents—to $2.34 per gallon. Travel north into Wilson County, including the Lebanon and Mt. Juliet area, and drivers will pay about six cents more, with regular unleaded averaging $2.38 per gallon.

According to prices released by the AAA Auto Club, only four Tennessee counties currently have regular unleaded priced at $2.28 per gallon or less. The lowest prices in the state can be found in Henry County, located in northwest Tennessee near the Kentucky border. Drivers in and around Paris, Tennessee, are paying an average of $2.21 per gallon, making Henry County the undisputed state champion of cheap fuel.

Lowest Gas Prices in Tennessee (Regular Unleaded – AAA Report 12/29/25)

  1. Henry County: $2.219 per gallon

  2. Union County: $2.285 per gallon

  3. Jackson County: $2.289 per gallon

  4. Humphreys County: $2.316 per gallon

  5. Montgomery County: $2.320 per gallon

  6. Anderson County: $2.324 per gallon

  7. Rutherford County: $2.325 per gallon

  8. Unicoi County: $2.328 per gallon

Across all 95 Tennessee counties, today’s statewide average remains $2.45 per gallon, undercutting the national average of $2.82 per gallon. That puts Tennessee drivers enjoying gas that’s 37 cents cheaper per gallon than motorists elsewhere in the country.

Drivers seeking the opposite experience—higher prices and lighter wallets—can head west into Williamson County. In the Brentwood and Franklin area, regular unleaded is hovering around $3.00 per gallon, maintaining Williamson County’s long-running streak as the most expensive place to fuel up in Tennessee over the past 24 months. Nearby Nashville prices are also higher at $2.52 per gallon, while Cannon County, including Woodbury, is averaging $2.51 per gallon, just one penny less than Music City.

Mid-grade fuel across Tennessee is averaging $2.90 per gallon, down two cents from last week. Premium gas is currently priced at $3.28 per gallon, which is four cents cheaper than last week and 20 cents cheaper than the same day last year.

A 5-year look back, historical data from GasBuddy, shows Tennessee has consistently stayed below U.S. average:

  • Dec. 29, 2024: $2.64 (U.S. $2.98)

  • Dec. 29, 2023: $2.74 (U.S. $3.11)

  • Dec. 29, 2022: $2.81 (U.S. $3.13)

  • Dec. 29, 2021: $2.97 (U.S. $3.28)

  • Dec. 29, 2020: $2.00 (U.S. $2.26)

For diesel drivers, the average price in Tennessee is currently $3.28 per gallon. That’s four cents less than last week, but four cents higher than diesel prices on December 29, 2024.

For now, Tennessee drivers—especially those in Rutherford County—can enjoy filling up without wincing. Whether these prices last is anyone’s guess, but for at least this Monday, the pump isn’t winning.
