MURFREESBORO, Tenn. — The NAACP Murfreesboro Branch will host its annual Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Breakfast on Saturday, January 17, 2026, as part of Martin Luther King Jr. Weekend activities in Rutherford County. The event is scheduled for 9:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m. at the James Union Building on the campus of Middle Tennessee State University, located at 516 Alma Mater Drive.
According to organizers, the breakfast is designed to honor the life, legacy, and vision of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. while bringing together community leaders, civic organizations, and residents to reflect on his enduring message of justice, unity, and service. The program will feature guest speakers, music, and special recognitions highlighting community leadership and civic engagement.
Two major honors will be presented during the event: the Jerry Anderson Hero Award and the NAACP Humanitarian Award. The awards recognize individuals whose actions demonstrate courage, compassion, and a sustained commitment to making a positive impact in the Murfreesboro community.
Event organizers say the annual breakfast serves as both a celebration and a call to action, encouraging attendees to continue advancing civil rights and community involvement in the spirit of Dr. King’s teachings.
