New Evening "Farmers Market" Coming to Rutherford County This May

MURFREESBORO, TN (WGNS News) - The Rutherford County Farmers Market is stepping into its next half‑century with fresh momentum and an even stronger commitment to serving the community. Last year marked the market’s 50th anniversary, and what began as a celebration of its Golden Anniversary has now grown into a year‑round presence at the Lane Agri‑Park. In November, Rutherford County Agricultural Extension Service Director Anthony Tuggle announced that instead of closing after the traditional spring and summer season, the market would continue operating on Friday mornings from 8 a.m. to noon through April 2026 at 315 John R. Rice Boulevard in Murfreesboro. When May arrives, the familiar Tuesday‑and‑Friday schedule will resume, also from 8 a.m. to noon.

Community response to the Tuggle's expanded schedule has been overwhelmingly positive, and that enthusiasm has paved the way for another first.

Farmers Market Manager Hannah Bleam shared with WGNS that beginning this May, the market will introduce a special evening market on select Tuesdays from 2 to 7 p.m. The new hours are designed to reach residents who can’t make it during the morning sessions, offering the same mix of fresh produce, baked goods, handmade items, and local products in a relaxed, family‑friendly setting.

“The evening hours are a great way to reach more members of our community,” Bleam said. “We’re eager to see how residents respond to this new option and whether it becomes a favorite part of their weekly routine.”

The evening market will operate as a pilot program for the 2026 season, giving vendors and the Agricultural Extension Office an opportunity to gauge interest and determine whether extended hours should become a permanent part of the market’s future.

Through every change, the mission of the Rutherford County Farmers Market remains steady: supporting local agriculture, encouraging healthy eating, and strengthening community connections. Residents are invited to come meet local growers, explore seasonal offerings, and enjoy the welcoming atmosphere that has made the market a Rutherford County staple for five decades.

Again, the Rutherford County Farmers Market is at the Lane Agri-Park at 315 John R. Rice Blvd., Murfreesboro. Currently the market is open Fridays from 8:00AM to noon through April. Then, starting with May, the Tuesday and Friday dates resume, also 8:00AM to noon. Plus, with May, the select Tuesday evenings (2-7PM) will debut!
