MURFREESBORO, TN (WGNS News) - A Murfreesboro resident returned home from work Friday (1/9/2026) morning to an unsettling sight—smoke drifting through the house. Around 8:25 a.m., Murfreesboro Fire‑Rescue Department crews were dispatched to the home on August Circle, a neighborhood located off Thompson Lane between Jones Boulevard and Sulphur Springs Road.
Firefighters arrived quickly and found a room‑and‑contents fire inside the residence. Crews were able to extinguish the flames before they spread, preventing what officials say could have been far more extensive damage. No injuries were reported.
While the fire was contained to one room, the home did sustain smoke and water damage. The occupant was outside and safe when firefighters arrived.
The Fire Marshal’s Office is completing a routine investigation to determine what sparked the blaze, which is standard procedure for residential structure fires.
A strong response team was sent to the scene, including Ladder 6, Ladder 4, Ladder 1, Rescue 4, Battalion Chief 1, Battalion Chief 2, Support 1, Support 2, CAR 120, and Command Staff units 131, 134, and 139.
Once again, WGNS extends its sincere thanks to the first responders who go out of their way to help this community whenever needs arise.
