MURFREESBORO, Tenn. — Now three weeks and counting, a local nonprofit is continuing to keep the Christmas spirit alive by helping area residents stay warm during the winter months. David Coggin with Barnabas Vision told WGNS that just before the holidays, close to 100 new and gently used winter coats were given away to people in need across the community... The coats, all donated by caring individuals and families, were distributed to both adults and children who otherwise may not have been able to afford one. Coggin said the need has continued beyond the holidays, with people still calling and stopping by in search of warm clothing. When asked if Barnabas Vision still has coats available, Coggin explained that the organization does currently have coats to continue helping those who reach out for assistance.... Anyone in need of a free winter coat can contact Barnabas Vision directly by calling (615) 556-5134 to ask about availability of sizes and pick-up options.
In addition to coats, Barnabas Vision is also focusing on helping individuals experiencing homelessness in Murfreesboro through its “Encouragement Bags,” which are available for community members to pick up and distribute...
One of the most urgent needs right now is hand warmers. Coggin said it is always a good idea for residents to keep a pack of hand or toe warmers in their vehicles to give to those living in the elements. These items can be purchased in bulk online or at several local retail stores...
