UPDATE: Smyrna Man’s Killing ‘Not Random,’ Rutherford Sheriff’s Office Says in Ongoing Homicide Investigation

RUTHERFORD COUNTY, Tenn. (WGNS) - Rutherford County Sheriff’s detectives say the homicide of a Smyrna man killed Sunday evening appears to have been a targeted incident, a detective supervisor confirmed as the investigation continues.

Ben J. Lee, 55, of Smyrna, was found deceased inside a home on Lee Road, said Detective Lt. Steve Craig with the Rutherford County Sheriff’s Office Criminal Investigations Division.

“The investigation shows his homicide was not a random act,” Craig said.

The fatal shooting occurred around 6:30 p.m. Sunday on Lee Road, just outside Smyrna. Deputies were dispatched to the scene after receiving reports of gunfire in the area.

“Deputies responded to a shooting, which resulted in the death of Ben J. Lee, 55, of Smyrna,” Craig previously stated.

Authorities have not released information about a suspect, motive, or any arrests in the case. The investigation remains active, and officials say additional details will be released as they become available.

The Rutherford County Sheriff’s Office is asking anyone with information related to the incident to contact investigators.
