MURFREESBORO, TN (WGNS News) - Time is running out for Murfreesboro residents to nominate their favorite Murfreesboro City Schools educator for the 2025–26 Teachers Hall of Fame. The district is accepting nominations through January 30, 2026, giving the community just a short window to recognize the teachers and support staff who helped shape generations of students.

Now in its third year, the MCS Hall of Fame celebrates the long, rich history of Murfreesboro City Schools by honoring individuals whose work left a lasting mark on the district. The Hall of Fame is open to far more than classroom teachers. Former bus drivers, cafeteria workers, education assistants, maintenance staff, administrators, and other employees who served at least ten years and have been retired for five or more are all eligible. Nominees may be living or deceased.

Dr. Trey Duke, Director of Schools, said the Hall of Fame is a chance to honor the people who built the foundation of today’s school system. “MCS has a rich history of serving Murfreesboro for over 130 years,” he said. “Whether the nominee served in 1935 or 2005, the Hall of Fame is a unique opportunity to celebrate their contribution to education.”

Nominations may be submitted online or by requesting a paper form through the district office. Categories include Heritage for those who retired before 1970, Tradition for retirees from 1971 to 2000, and Contemporary for those who retired from 2001 to the present. A selection committee made up of retired educators, current staff, and community members will review submissions, and inductees will be honored at a Spring celebration.

The Hall of Fame already includes a distinguished group of educators and staff. The inaugural 2023 class featured Ruth Bowdoin, Dr. Dee Doyle, Baxter Hobgood, Dr. John Hodge Jones, Emma G. Rogers Roberts, Helen M. Salisbury, Mary K. Simpson, Bertha Snowden, Mary Scales, and Mary Wade. The 2024 inductees were Judy Whitehill, Sandra Parks, Mabel Pittard, and Ernest Victory.

With the deadline approaching, MCS encourages families, former students, and community members to take a moment to honor those who helped shape Murfreesboro’s educational story. Nominations can be submitted through the district’s online form. If you have questions or would like to request a paper application: phone 615-893-2313.
