At first, we told you about how the state was looking to eliminate your favorite Sangria – well, perhaps we should say infused drinks which cover a lot more than Sangria’s. Now, it looks as if the state has had a change of heart.

The state warned bars that in July, they would no longer be allowed to “infuse alcohol” unless the bar or restaurant in question had a special license. Now, the state has decided not to push the issue and continue to let it slide. In other words, the state Alcoholic Beverage Commission Director has decided not to enforce the anti-infusing laws that were first created in 2006.

Keith Bell is the new Alcoholic Beverage Commission director and he started off his new job with a bang. Of course, he was about to kick it off with an even bigger bang, but he changed those plans after hearing from restaurant after restaurant complaining about the new enforcement that was set to begin July 1st.

Are you familiar with the term “To infuse spirits?” It means to mix or add fruits, spices, herbs or other natural ingredients to your favorite adult beverage. It is a practice that bartenders participate in daily to mix their customers favorite drinks. The state now says such a mixture is illegal.

The law was passed in 2006 and will start to be enforced by the state in July, according to the brand new Tennessee Alcoholic Beverage Commissioner. This means that drinks like your favorite after hours Sangria, could disappear off your restaurant menu.
