COFFEE COUNTY, Tenn. — Authorities in Coffee County are investigating the theft of a black dump-style trailer that was reported stolen earlier this month in the Hillsboro area. At this point, law enforcement have few clues to go by and are asking for the public's help in locating the heavy duty, four-wheeled pull-behind trailer.

According to the Coffee County Sheriff's Department, the trailer was taken from Stephenson Road during the early morning hours of Tuesday, January 13, 2026. Investigator Brandon Gullett has released photos of the stolen trailer in hopes that members of the public may recognize it or have information related to the theft (photos above article). And if you are in the market to buy a trailer, make sure you check the VIN and / or serial number on the trailer before exchanging funds to take the trailer home. Otherwise, you risk loosing your hard earned dollars.

The trailer is described as a black Maxx-D dump trailer with black wheels and a dual-axle configuration designed for heavy loads. Manufacturers indicate that trailers of this type are commonly used to haul gravel, construction debris, and heavy-duty equipment. The powder-coated finish provides added durability, while the dual axles are typically equipped with a braking system to accommodate heavier payloads.

Base prices for Maxx-D dump trailers similar to the one stolen generally begin around $15,299, according to manufacturer listings. Comparable models range from 12 to 16 feet in length and come standard with three-foot sides. The telescoping dump arm can extend to approximately 83 inches and is capable of handling loads of up to 16,000 pounds.

Investigators noted that the trailer previously displayed a rear sticker reading “G & T Construction” along with the phone number (931) 273-1685. The trailer was also equipped with a commercial plate bearing the number 165855. Authorities say both the sticker and plate may have been removed by the suspect following the theft.

Can You Help? Anyone with information that could assist in the investigation is urged to contact Investigator Brandon Gullett at bgullett@coffeecountytn.gov or call the Coffee County Sheriff’s Office at 931-728-3591.

Buyer Beware: Before buying, officials strongly encourage potential buyers to check the VIN (Vehicle Identification Number). The National Insurance Crime Bureau (NICB) offers a free online VIN search tool at NICB.org/VINcheck, enabling users to determine whether a vehicle has been reported stolen. This tool is valuable not only for UTVs but for a wide range of vehicles and equipment.
