Murfreesboro, Tenn. — A Murfreesboro woman was injured and a Nashville man was killed following a fatal two-vehicle crash early Friday morning in Davidson County, according to information released by the Metro Nashville Police Department. The crash occurred around 2:00 a.m. Friday on Old Hickory Boulevard at Zermatt Avenue and involved a 2005 Lincoln Grand Marquis and a 2019 Honda Accord.

According to the Metro Nashville Police Department, the preliminary investigation indicates the driver of the Grand Marquis, Katera Johnson, 38, of Murfreesboro, was traveling west on Old Hickory Boulevard when she attempted to turn left onto Zermatt Avenue. Investigators say the vehicle was struck on the passenger side by an eastbound Honda Accord, causing the Grand Marquis to overturn.

Police said neither Johnson nor her front-seat passenger was wearing a seatbelt at the time of the crash. The passenger, identified as Markeith Miller, 42, of Nashville, died at the scene.

Johnson was transported to Vanderbilt University Medical Center with non-life-threatening injuries. The driver of the Honda Accord, Eddie McGee III, 25, was wearing a seatbelt and was also taken to Vanderbilt University Medical Center with non-life-threatening injuries.

“The preliminary contributing factor to this fatal crash appears to be failure to yield the right of way on the part of Johnson,” Metro Nashville Police Department officials stated. Authorities added that the investigation remains ongoing to determine whether speed or impairment played a role.

No charges have been announced at this time.
