DeKALB COUNTY, TN - In nearby DeKalb County, long regarded by area residents as a destination for swimming, boating, and fishing thanks to Center Hill Lake, authorities are investigating a violent shooting that occurred Monday morning in Liberty.

According to the DeKalb County Sheriff’s Department, 23-year-old Ayden Awan White of Liberty has been charged with attempted second-degree murder following a shooting that left another man with multiple gunshot wounds.

In a prepared statement, Patrick Ray said DeKalb 911 received a call at approximately 10:37 a.m. on Monday, January 19, reporting a shooting at a residence on Tubbs Street in Liberty. Deputies arrived to find a male victim lying in the front yard suffering from multiple gunshot wounds.

Deputies immediately rendered medical aid until DeKalb Emergency Medical Services arrived. The victim was then transported to a nearby landing zone and flown by medical helicopter to a Nashville-area hospital for further treatment. The victim’s current condition has not been released.

Investigators reported that White was still at the scene when deputies arrived and was detained without incident. Sheriff’s Department detectives later conducted a full investigation into the circumstances surrounding the shooting.

As a result of that investigation, White was formally arrested and charged with attempted second-degree murder. He is being held on a $375,000 bond and is scheduled to appear in court on February 5 at 9 a.m.

The incident remains under investigation, and authorities have not released additional details regarding a possible motive or the relationship between the suspect and the victim.
