RUTHERFORD COUNTY, TN (WGNS Radio) - All Rutherford County Schools will be closed Monday and Tuesday, Jan. 26–27, for both students and employees. The school system's Chief Communications Officer James Evans told WGNS News, "This decision comes after reviewing the latest forecasts, which show a messy mix of snow and ice paired with dangerously low temperatures. It’s the kind of weather that makes travel risky and building operations difficult, so the district is stepping back to keep everyone safe."

The Rutherford County Schools Central Office will also be closed on Monday. A call about Tuesday’s schedule will be made once officials see how conditions develop. Custodians, maintenance crews, and other essential workers will follow the same schedule as Central Office but should remain on standby in case they’re needed to respond to weather‑related issues.

Evans repeated the message to make sure it sticks: all Rutherford County schools are closed Monday and Tuesday. Central Office is closed Monday. Everyone else should plan to stay warm, stay aware, and stay off the roads if possible.

The district hopes families enjoy the rare stretch of winter weather—maybe even a little snow day fun—but urges everyone to use caution. With temperatures this low and ice in the mix, safety comes first.
