MURFREESBORO, TN (WGNS News) - Murfreesboro City Schools will be closed this Monday and Tuesday (Jan. 26-27, 2026). The City's Extended School Program will be closed on Monday. The Central Office will also shut down Monday as temperatures remain dangerously low and road conditions are expected to worsen.
Although City school are closed Tuesday as well, the status of ESP for Tuesday is undecided. District leaders plan to reassess conditions on Monday before determining whether ESP can safely operate the following day. That decision will be communicated once officials have a clearer picture of the weather and its impact on travel and facilities.
Monday’s plan is straightforward: schools, ESP, and the Central Office will all be closed. Tuesday’s plan is partially set, with schools confirmed to remain closed while ESP remains under evaluation.
The district emphasized that the safety of students, families, and employees remains the top priority. With forecasts calling for continued cold, potential ice, and lingering hazardous conditions, leaders say the early announcement gives families time to prepare and helps avoid unnecessary travel during the worst of the weather.
