MURFREESBORO, Tenn. (WGNS) - Local emergency officials are alerting the public to a service disruption affecting two major wireless carriers that may impact emergency communications.
Both AT&T and T-Mobile are currently experiencing intermittent connectivity issues. These technical difficulties may prevent 911 calls from connecting or potentially affect the accuracy of the location data sent to emergency dispatchers.
What to Do in an Emergency
If you are an AT&T or T-Mobile customer and need to reach emergency services, officials recommend the following steps:
-
Try Again: If your initial call to 911 fails to connect, hang up and attempt the call a second time.
-
Use a Landline: If a mobile device continues to fail, use a traditional landline if one is available nearby.
-
Alternative Number: If 911 still cannot be reached, residents in the Murfreesboro area should dial the non-emergency dispatch number at 615-893-1311.
Location Accuracy Warning
Beyond call connection issues, the disruption may also impact the "automatic location identification" that dispatchers use to find callers. If you do get through to a 911 operator, be prepared to clearly state your exact location, including street address and any apartment or suite numbers, as the system may not be able to pinpoint your coordinates automatically during this time.
