UPDATE: MTSU to Remain in Remote Operations Jan. 27-28 due to Inclement Weather

UPDATE: MURFREESBORO, Tenn. — MTSU will remain closed as the winter chill continues. According to the National Weather Service, an Extreme Cold Warning remains in effect until noon on Tuesday. Current advisories indicate dangerously cold wind chills will persist through the overnight hours and into Tuesday morning. Along with those single digit temps' will be wind-chill readings as cold as NEGATIVE -11 Degrees, as reported by the National Weather Service. With the frigid temperatures come school closings, with MTSU being one of those closings to report.

Middle Tennessee State University first closed their campus for classes on Monday as the ice began to settle into place on area roadways and will continue to keep their doors shut on both Tuesday and Wednesday. Officials at the university report, "Due to the ongoing severe winter weather conditions, Middle Tennessee State University will remain in remote operations for Tuesday and Wednesday, Jan. 27-28, with only essential staff reporting to campus."

 

 

For faculty and students, faculty members will transition in-person classes to remote operations on Tuesday and Wednesday and will communicate their instructional plans to students in advance. Online courses will continue with normal operations.

For employees, each department/unit will identify and notify its designated essential employees, as well as those expected to work remotely.

Employees who provide essential services are advised to contact their supervisors if they feel conditions are too hazardous for them to travel. The university will reassess weather conditions and determine operational status for Thursday, Jan. 29, and beyond.
