Rutherford County, TN: Average Price for Gallon of Reg. $2.57

RUTHERFORD COUNTY, TN - (WGNS) Less than 10 days ago, Tennessee cracked the Top 10 list of states with the 9th cheapest gas in the United States. As of Monday afternoon (Feb. 9, 2026), the Volunteer State has inched up another spot, now sitting at No. 8 nationwide, with regular unleaded averaging $2.55 per gallon, according to AAA - The Auto Club. That’s good news—unless you live in certain pockets of Middle Tennessee, where prices seem to be following their own rules. Just below Tennessee on the national list is Texas (#7) at $2.50 per gallon, while the crown once again belongs to Oklahoma (#1), where regular unleaded is averaging a wallet-friendly $2.32 per gallon. Apparently, cheaper gas really does roam free where the buffalo roam.

Closer to home, it’s been a bit of a gas-price guessing game across Rutherford County. In Murfreesboro, Smyrna, and La Vergne, regular unleaded started February averaging $2.50 per gallon. One week later, prices jumped about seven cents. As of Monday (02/09/26), drivers in the area are paying an average of $2.57 per gallon for 87-octane—still decent by national standards, but moving in the wrong direction.

South of the ’Boro in Bedford County, including Shelbyville, prices rose more gently, climbing about two cents to an average of $2.55 per gallon. Southeast in Coffee County, drivers are seeing slightly higher prices at $2.59 per gallon, while east in the Woodbury area, regular unleaded is averaging $2.63.

Then there’s Williamson County—once again living up to its reputation. In Brentwood and Franklin, motorists are paying a lofty $3.01 per gallon for regular unleaded. Gas prices there have led the state for nearly two years straight, suggesting the fuel may come with a hint of gold… or at least silver.

North of Rutherford County in Wilson County, including Lebanon and Mt. Juliet, prices are averaging $2.59 per gallon, about two cents higher than Rutherford County. Northwest, in Davidson County, drivers in Nashville are paying even more, with regular unleaded averaging $2.66 per gallon.

Statewide, premium fuel is also flexing a bit. High-octane gas is averaging $3.40 per gallon, up six cents from last week but still about 16 cents cheaper than this time last year.

Diesel drivers are catching a small break. Diesel is averaging $3.33 per gallon, about seven cents cheaper than a year ago. Tennessee currently ranks 11th nationally for the lowest diesel prices, while Oklahoma—because of course—also tops the diesel list at $3.11 per gallon.
