MURFREESBORO, Tenn. — Visitors to Linebaugh Public Library will soon notice something new on the first floor — a free vending machine stocked with essential items, made possible through a partnership with Archie’s Promise and funding from The Christy Houston Foundation.
According to a February 10, 2026 press release, the hygiene-focused vending machine is designed to remove barriers for families and individuals who may need basic supplies while visiting the library.
Archie’s Promise, the nonprofit organization behind the initiative, focuses on empowering youth and families by providing practical support without stigma. “Our hygiene vending machines ensure that essential items are available when people need them most - no judgement, just support.” said Claressa Ham, executive director of Archie’s Promise.
The machine will offer items such as diapers, wipes, socks, and other hygiene products — all available at no cost to patrons.
Mindy Barrett, branch manager of Linebaugh Public Library, said the partnership aligns closely with the library’s mission to serve the community beyond traditional information access. “I am so grateful for Archie’s Promise and the chance to work with them on this project. This partnership reflects the library’s commitment to meeting people where they are and ensuring every visitor feels cared for and respected,” said Barrett.
The library manager went on to state, “In addition to information access, libraries provide an opportunity for studying, socializing, discovering new interests, and a host of other activities that foster community and personal development. A simple need, like a diaper, may determine whether a family can continue to enjoy all the library has to offer, or having to cut a library visit short.”
The library is part of the Rutherford County Library System, which includes additional branches in Smyrna, Eagleville, and other Murfreesboro locations. Officials say the new vending machine represents a broader commitment to meeting residents where they are and ensuring every visitor feels respected and supported .
