MURFREESBORO, Tenn. (WGNS) — A local man is behind bars following a weekend fire investigation that led to a physical confrontation with law enforcement.

Emergency units from Rutherford County Fire Rescue were dispatched to a structure fire in the 6300 block of Lofton Road shortly before 4:00 p.m. on Sunday. While crews worked to contain the flames, investigators from the Fire Marshal’s Office began a specialized probe into the cause of the blaze. Officials eventually determined the fire was intentionally set, classifying the incident as incendiary.

During the investigation, authorities identified 42-year-old Jonathan Madison of Lascassas as a person of interest after he was spotted in the immediate vicinity of the scene. The encounter turned physical when Madison allegedly attempted to assault both Fire Marshals and a Deputy from the Rutherford County Sheriff’s Office as they approached him for questioning.

Madison was detained and transported to the Rutherford County Adult Detention Center. He currently faces charges of Arson and Attempted Assault on a Law Enforcement Officer. He is being held under a $22,000 bond, with a preliminary hearing scheduled for March 17th in General Sessions Court.
