MURFREESBORO, Tenn. (WGNS) — The roster for the Tennessee Sports Hall of Fame Class of 2026 continues to take shape, with Murfreesboro icons Kermit Davis and David Price among the high-profile names recently confirmed for induction.
The Hall is currently unveiling its 2026 class in stages, with additional members expected to be announced in the coming weeks. Both Davis and Price have been recognized for their monumental impact on the state's athletic landscape, joining a small group of elite athletes and coaches already named to this year’s prestigious lineup.
The Winningest Coach in Blue Raider History
Kermit Davis, the most successful men's basketball coach in Middle Tennessee State University history, was recently announced as a member of the 2026 class. Over 16 seasons (2002–2018), Davis redefined the MTSU program, leading the Blue Raiders to over 300 wins and multiple conference championships.
His tenure was highlighted by three NCAA Tournament appearances and two of the most significant postseason victories in school history, including the 2016 upset of second-seeded Michigan State. "Kermit’s impact goes beyond banners and brackets," said Brad Willis, Executive Director of the Tennessee Sports Hall of Fame, noting the culture of academic accountability and competitive excellence Davis established in Murfreesboro.
A Hometown Hero’s Hall of Fame Nod
Also joining the "announced class" is Murfreesboro native David Price. A former standout at Blackman High School and Vanderbilt University, Price’s journey from local prospect to the first overall pick in the 2007 MLB Draft remains a point of pride for the community.
Price’s storied professional career includes an American League Cy Young Award and a World Series title with the Boston Red Sox. As a five-time All-Star, Price is widely regarded as one of the most dominant left-handed pitchers to ever come out of the state of Tennessee.
A Growing Roster of Excellence
Davis and Price are part of an early group of inductees that includes softball icon Monica Abbott and MLB champion Matt Cain. They join previously announced members such as:
-
Antone Davis (University of Tennessee Football)
-
Charles McRae (University of Tennessee Football)
-
Bubba Luckett (Christian Brothers University Basketball)
-
Mike Clary (Rhodes College Athletics)
-
Reggie Cobb (The late UT and NFL standout)
The 2026 Induction Ceremony, presented by the Tennessee Titans, will take place on Saturday, July 11, at the Omni Nashville Downtown. Fans can expect the full induction class to be finalized as more names are released throughout the spring.
